This is somewhat related to #12815, in that an assumption of the model may not be the best assumption.

Stefan approaches this system with a view that is ALWAYS showing, not constructed on demand. This view would need to update such that, the item in the model can be changed, which the also changes the view (triggering an update on it). And also allow for the model item to be cleared, or set to an empty pointer. This would have the effect of clearing the view. It wills still show the fields, but no longer hold any values.
