Is there a good book that discusses how to use Wt properly?

Is there a book that explains how to create a real-world Wt application from the ground up, and more importantly how to do it properly?

I don't think so. This topic also came up 2 years ago: http://redmine.webtoolkit.eu/boards/1/topics/8120.

Since Wt is changing constantly and is not that popular, I guess the situation will not change for a while.

Besides that I think the building blocks are well described in the widget gallery (http://www.webtoolkit.eu/widgets). More high-level stuff depends on your use case. If you are a beginner, you may also want to have a look at the example applications. Other than that I can only invite everyone to the IRC channel #wt on freenode or to the forum for specific questions.

Namaskara,

In my opinion, Wt has not gained wider audience despite being a great framework, primarily because of lack of good documentation especially the ones that give extensive examples.

The learning curve is too steep. The Doxygen based documentation is woefully inadequate for a beginner. That entry barrier is preventing the wider acceptance w.r.t other frameworks such as ruby on rails, java based ones.

As far as I know there just one commercial grade website based on Wt (http://www.musicplyr.com). I tried searching for other commercial grade sites based on wt...but I drew a blank. So I presume that wt is not popular when it comes to commercial grade websites.

I wished a wider community build up around wt.

I know of another server which claims to be the fastest webserver (gwan), beyond some code snippets, everything else is opaque. So there is no acceptance of that server.

I agree with you..till there is a good documentation of wT...it will end up as yet another web framework, despite having a fantastic future especially so in IOT scenario.

Hey,

We agree that indeed documentation can improve a lot. A book has been attempted in the past but is a huge task. Recently we revisited the issue together with a technical writer and they are now investigating the possibility to author a book.

As to websites: I think it's indeed the case that relatively few websites are based on Wt. Wt isn't a toolkit for websites. There are however numerous web applications being developed with Wt, but these are almost never available online (embedded, intranet, or extranet/cloud applications).

In many ways, Wt follows the steep learning curve of C --- neither Wt nor C were designed to be easy to learn, but both Wt and C aim to be robust (and efficient) tools which have benefits over other languages in certain contexts.
